Premium Imports Bounce Back in Third Quarter

Third Quarter: Cigar Industry Imports Claw Their Way Back

WASHINGTON, DC, December 26, 2023 – The Cigar Association of America today released its third quarter cigar industry imports overview report showing that imports are on the rise.

According to CAA Chief Statistician Daniel Cotter, “As of the end of the third quarter this year, premium imports have climbed back to near breakeven when comparing this year with the third quarter in 2022.

“The data show the low point when comparing this year to last year was at the end of April. As of 4/30/23, premium imports were down almost 7% year-over-year (YOY),” Cotter noted. “Yet, premium imports have clawed their way back since then to only be down just under 1% YOY.
“The Fall of 2021 and 2022 ended very strong for premium imports. So, the question is, will the last quarter of 2023 experience the same strength,” Cotter pointed out, “potentially resulting in a near record year for cigar imports.”
